How to Test safety switch
Safety Switch testing should be practiced monthly, a simple test a Home / Business owner can preform is to press the test button on the Safety Switch and the trip button will activate. This is a basic test to make sure the mechanical trigger hasn't ceased. Once tripped you should be able to reset your Safety Switch by lifting the switch to the on position. If for some reason the test trigger get stuck or will not trip off power the Safety Switch it will need to be renewed.
It has been our experience and found many Safety Switches don't perform to this test after a number of years in service. The simple test button on you Safety Switch is to prevent the mechanical mechanism from ceasing, all Safety Switch manufacturers supply these test buttons for this reason.

- Plug in the safety switch tester and measure for tripping time.
- Plug in the RCD tester and measure for tripping current time.
- Compare safety switch tripping times according to AS 3760
- Record all RCD testing times and document if they pass or fail.
- Indicate what electrical circuits are protected buy your safety switch.
- A general inspection inside the switchboard for any water leaks and weatherproof seal and mechanical damage to the switchboard housing.
